Unkn. 1. Ancient sea deity worshipped by the pre Empire islanders of Lanàdus.  Many aspects of the deity are incorporated into Iràen.  The people of the ancient Lanàdus believed that the sun rose from the waves and descended into the same.  Ancient temples to Malaz are found throughout the island on occasion, the most famous of which is a submerged temple city in the shadow of Tor Tremendum.

The ingredients of her stew were a highly guarded secret though local children tell tales of kids that had wandered into Taala's alley and never returned. Taala was Malyn's landlady for some time.

Dek. (899-937 HK) 1. Famous Rothic clockmaker whose fingers were cut off following the creation of his masterpiece in Panath.  Following his dismemberment, Marjord threw himself from a river bridge and drowned.

Jacant Meder

( -638 DR) 1.  During the winter of 638 DR, many in Oth went hungry when a black mold was found in many grain stores for the Naryard.  A peasant named Jacant who worked at the Perul granaries was found wandering among the stores late one night under Mamra's full disc and charged with sorcery.  When dragged to the Hanging Tree his ripped clothing revealed a strange red tattoo of an eye upon his chest.  His cairn still lies at the foot of the tree.

High Priestess Meol the Third
O.Tal. ( -643 DR) 1. Predecessor to High Priestess Elesea the Eleventh of Taldàna.  Meol was a great patron of symphony music and spent vast sums refurbishing ancient music halls in Taldàna, Shalvasal, and Wyme'er.  During her reign several pieces were written in her honor.
Merant
O.Oth. ( -112 DR) 1. Rothic ethicist who is credited as the father of the Puritan Calling within Oth.  Merant produced numerous leaflets aimed at the general population, espousing the values of hardwork and spartan living.  He orated throughout the region on the Virtues of Roth, and many of his teachings are studied today.  Like Hardrok before him, Merant answered the need for a moral compass within the corrupt post-Dekàlan society.
Merchant Guard
Oth. 1. The law enforcement branch of the Merchants' Guild. The soldiery are not permitted to wear anything more than leather armor within the City of Oth, though officers often wear studded leather. Rank within the Guard is depicted by the metal badge (or coin) sewn into the chest of one's armor. Copper, silver, gold are used, while the highest ranking officers wear carved precious stones in place of a metal decoration. There are ranks within each metal designation. Although the Guard has no "legal" power to enforce laws, the crown's recent ambivalence has empowered the Merchant Guard. The Merchant Guard do "permit" non-Guards and Lord's Men to wear armor in protected areas of the City of Oth. Weapons are frowned upon but rarely disallowed. Visible weapons within the City are uncommon as they attract unwanted attention. The Merchant Guard are paid per arrest, making commissions on all fines extracted by Merchant Guild magistrates.
Merchants' Guild
Oth. 1. A consortium of business owners and traffickers that dictate, manage, and enforce many aspects of life within the City of Oth. The Merchants' Guild's most visible presence is the Merchant Guard; whose favor and protection is available to all, for a price.

O.Oth. 1. Erhet hooligan, tortured and killed by Nirst Ohlmdamnor following the assault on Bugaven's Feast and Sleep on 5 Lanal 652. Eeres was kept prisoner in the inn and interrogated the next morning, before being executed.
Mothsmire
Oth. 1. A small community north of the City of Oth, bordering Candan and Wesridge. The community is plagued once a year with moth infestations which are attracted to the lanterns and torches (the only way to navigate the often foggy marshes) with so many numbers that the lights are often extinguished, leaving a potent burnt moth stench in their wake. During these mothdays the people of Candan and Wesridge prepare scented candles to ward off the fluttering swarms. The neighboring towns keep the candle ingredients secret from the Mothsmire residents, not wishing the moths to be repelled toward their own homes. This has caused some enmity between the communities.
Mourners' Guild
Oth. 1. An organization with the City of Oth that provides service and ceremony for the deceased. Other than wailing and death-vigils, the guild also manages collection, embalming, preserving, religious preparation, excavation, internment, and maintains massive archives that detail where most of the dead in Oth have been buried. A Hall of the guild exists within each ward of the City of Oth. (see Hall of Sorrows)

O.Oth. 1.  A connected businessman of Oth who frequents the Headless Hag.
Thard Lathar Mullar
O.Oth. 1. Thard of the High Lord Edgur Rott the Third of Oth who was killed for delivering a message to the Goblin Queen in 649 DR, informing her of her counselor's death.  The Thard's sword was used to knight Jak of Candan three years later.

Musicians' Guild
Oth. 1. A collective of musicians and entertainers in the City of Oth that have pooled their resources and contacts to provide jobs, networking, and security for its members. Despite its growing numbers the guild seems eternally bankrupt, unable to produce surplus coins. The Derecauln has made offers to help the ailing group, which have been turned down in the past, but may be accepted if things don't soon change.
