"Wulwur looked out upon the fields where his tenants stood, despairing
their wilted crop. There would again be no harvest this year. The
Valanian had noticed the shrines fallen into disrepair, many of the stones had
been removed to repair fences and chimneys. They had sowed Kandlan's reward
in the past and now would feel his wrath."

1. An unfreeable slave. Uren slavery has always been legal

were changed in the Middle Empire. Before this time, people were
permitted to own and trade eárad, which were slaves with no contract
for freedom. After the High King outlawed this practice throughout
the Empire, every Uren slave was granted a contract which if followed
would earn the slave its freedom when the contract expired. The
creation of contracts followed detailed and often arcane guidelines
so that a slave had a chance to meet its criteria in time. These
contracts only applied to Uren slaves. Owners of Uren war captives
were sometimes given exception to this law, with the understanding that
children of these captives would be given contracts. This practice
