"...[name] stood in the [name2] Hall, a hundred peers watching from the galleys
above. She called her Provider's name, and all could feel the power she commanded.
[name3] summoned his wards, but all that watched knew his efforts were in vain.
The next name she offered was his, and the misery of [name3] was legend."

In the eighth century (HK), the lands between
the Celecan and Allyrian Seas were covered with the blood of thousands
as the expanding Dekàlan Empire carved its way into Vulmura. The
Acentrans were by no means unfamiliar with war, but the invaders that
landed and conquered Rallaun were a breed apart. They did not subscribe
to the same Laws of War that had guided all Acentran battles since the
great hero Aracen plunged Wyrmmurd into the heart of Idharaghadi. Worse
still, they worshipped and dealt with the same Dágul the Acentrans
so hated. The Dekàlan warriors were another matter entirely.
These were professional soldiers, not farmers with swords told to
stand in a line and march. Many of those that landed at Rallaun
and Ciril had trained since youth in the Hall of Wyrthyr Tor, preparing
in the name and glory of their terrible god to march and slaughter at
the whim of their great High King. The Acentrans were not new to
war, but they were unprepared for this.

Post-Dekàlan History
Following the fall of the Old Empire, Viríllis
fragmented into warring states, each vying to fill the vaccuum left behind
Dekàlas. The separation of people and powers happened naturally
along the lines the previous kingdoms, Dirimor and Tarantis, but within
each of those regions there was further splintering. The resulting
civil wars lasted for many years eventually outlining the kingdoms as
they exist today.
In the interim, though both kingdoms took
immediate advantage with the Empire's fall, they have since engaged in
a battle of semantics as to which kingdom is the rightful successor to
the city-state of Viríllis. In the process, many Dekàlan
traditions and holidays have been reintroduced (after having been banned
following the end of the Second Acentran-Dekàlan War) and embraced
as local tradition. This practice is most apparent in Dirimor where
most Dekàlan traditions that were brought to Acentra) are still
observed.
There are many who abhor this glorification
of the past. Most notable among them is the Cult of Sarat, who continually
seek to finish that which the Acentran-Elve armies failed to do, destroy
the Old Empire and its Dágul once and for all. The errant
Acentran Knights are a brotherhood
devoted to the worship of Sarat the Avenger.
