Book of Rogues
- Aunda (Derecauln Torturer)
- Paldor Batrulan (Captain
of the Aylyréar)
- Eldùad Juarn (First
Mate of the Aylyréar)
- Parrak DEAD
Some believe that the existence of rogues and
thieves are a result of an imperfect and unbalanced Uren society.
While this may hold true for many examples, not all
rogues are categorized so neatly. There are plentiful
sources describing the varities of rogue that exist (see the
PHB).
It is common throughout the World of Teréth
End for rogues and thieves to organize themselves in clubs,
guilds, societies and banks (Acentra) to better take advantage
of their specialized skills. In most cases these organizations
are run like their legitimate business counterparts. Few
places allow these groups to operate openly (Azálari)
while others seek to eradicate every last beggar from their
streets (Lanádus). Despite every attempt to control
them, rogues can be found in every corner of the world, represented
by members of every race.
Despite a variety of talents and specialties,
all rogues have a core set of skills that define them. Learning
these skills and the less tangible aspects of their "trade"
takes time, but not nearly so long as more disciplined classes.
Finding someone to mentor can sometimes take just as
long as learning the trade unless membership in one of the
aforementioned groups can be secured. Few self-respecting
thieves appreciate the company of someone that will make their
job more challenging.

Aunda (630- DR)
was born to Paldan parents in the borough of Snidh in 630
DR. She had an unremarkable childhood playing along
the edges of the Candan marsh and throwing rocks at the swamp
toads that lived in that fetid hole. Like most of the
families nearby hers was poor so she didn't see much of her
father who lived long periods in the City, sending money home
to provide for his wife and their five children. Everything
seemed normal until 646 DR when Aunda fell for a charismatic
young man named Elsun
who convinced her to leave and live with him and others in
a Seereth tenement.
Two years later, Elsun who was running about
looking for "work" for the group learned that Aunda
had been unfaithful with his friend Aras. When Elsun
(now Ferret) returned home Aras was absent, so he took his
rage out on the young Aunda slashing her deeply across the
face with his knife; the scar of which remains to this day.
From that point forward there was a great friction within
the group with Aras and Ferret vying for leadership. Over
the years, Aunda moved back and forth between the two men
despite growing abuse from either bed.
In 650 DR the group admitted a sickly young
man named Tersus who had spent the last three years working
in the sunless streets of Vishàshun. Aunda became
good friends with Tersus and soon they too were romantically
involved. Tersus explained to Aunda that he had escaped
service in the Poisoners Guild and that every day he remained
in Oth his life was in peril. Together the two began
plans to leave the City. In the meantime Tersus taught
Aunda some of the fine arts of torture and poisoning that
he had learned from dark masters. In the fall of 651
DR while preparing to leave, Aras uncovered their plan and
slid a longknife into Tersus' back. Aunda was devastated
and remembered little of the punishments she received.
Embittered and hopeless, Aunda stayed with
the group. In the spring of 652 DR, Aras returned with
word that soon they would all be wealthy. At first,
no-one believed him for he was prone to exagerration when
trying to urge the group to help him. But he then told
the tale of an old man in
Mothsmire who had hidden a vast treasure behind the stones
of an old wall, a day's journey into the Northwoods. After
much persuading he convinced the group to follow, though most
were unhappy at the prospect of moving through the Urdar-filled
forest. When the treasure could not be found the group
split with several of its members returning to Oth to extract
more information from Cogham. Aunda stunned her companions
with the secret skills she had learned from Tersus. Aras
soon returned from the forest with news that they had found
the chest, but that a group of adventurers had stolen the
treasure from them. Furthermore, one of the adventurers
was a local named Jak of Candan. The group organized
itself one last time and went in search of Jak, instead they
found his father and so went about making an example of him
on the shores of Darshshell (near the thieves' home). Aras
arranged a meeting with the group in the hopes to luring them
into ambush and recovering the treasure. The result
was very different (see Candan
Massacre). Taking an Elve arrow to her leg, Aunda
managed to escape to the Wesridge wall where she slipped into
the crowded streets. Behind her, both Aras and Elsun
lay dead in the mud of Candan.
Following the massacre, Aunda removed herself
from the area, not wishing to face the murderers that cut
her companions down. Genter has proven to be a profitable
location for her talents and in one year's time she has made
a "good" name for herself.

Paldor
Batrulan (616- DR) was born in southern Ildûn. A
vagrant for much of his young life, Paldor fell in with bad
crowds and soon had a matching reputation with constabularies
up and down the southeast coast. Following the murder
of a local merchant for which he correctly assumed his colleagues
would frame him for, he joined a ship's crew and left the
region behind. He later learned that the crew he joined
had been desperate for more hands having lost sailors in a
northern port from which they barely escaped. He spent
several years with these pirates, learning the ways of the
sea, illegal dealings and how to make quick retreats. In
time, the captain made him First Mate. In the summer
of 643 DR a mutiny claimed the life of his captain. He
made a deal with the new captain and in exchange for most
of his wealth, he was deposited in a mainland port.
He worked the docks for almost two years before
being hired as a "new captain" for a fledgling shipping
company. They were looking to cut costs as much as they
could having underestimated the cost of their only ship, which
upon taking possession they learned to be a junker. Paldor
raised the cheapest crew that he could and was soon making
trading runs between Candal, Caramis and Saranth. His
successes with Olârad's Shipping Company of Fveher gained
him (and his company) more lucrative routes and a better ship.
In 649 DR, upon returning to Fveher he was given command
of the Bol Orgar "Aylyréar",
which he steers to this day. The ship's seaworthiness
has opened up new possiblities for the company, extending
their routes to Ildûn and Taldàna (and making
one run to distant Samigir, Azálari in 651 DR). He
has been making these new runs for four years. Paldor
remains cautious in Ildûni waters and ports for he knows
the pirates of the region and the port authorities, a bit
too well.
