Book of Poisons

There are countless poisons in the World of Teréth End.  Included here are a sampling of a much greater unwritten list.  The poisons are divided by mode of application (rf. DMGp80, Table 3-16). There are revised prices for DMG poisons (rf. SASp25).  Additionally, Woven components may be added to existing poisons or inert solutions to magically augment the effects of mundane poisons.  No more than one Woven component can be added to any mundane poison without risking adverse miscibility effects.  Woven components that require a failed save to activate, will not work within an inert substance.

Iub Duul [Mundane]:

Ingested

Bloodleaf [Mundane]: DC 17; Initial Damage 2d6 Con (temporary); Secondary Damage 1d6 Con (temporary).  Bloodleaf is a red-leafed plant that grows in rocky crags along the eastern shore of Teréthor.  In the spring, when it's leaves turn their brightest shade of red, the leaves are cultivated and ground with mortar and pestle.  The resulting bloody paste is ground into the syrup of a local hardwood to make the poison.  The poison has a distinct and pleasant sweet taste that adds flavor (and misery) to many foods.  Harvesting bloodleaf is a crime in all eastern kingdoms, except Olood.  Though the ingredients are not difficult to come by, excessive exposure to the materials has been known to cause nerve damage.  A dose of Bloodleaf costs 240-400d.

Mauhúloth [Mundane]:  DC 14; Initial Damage 1d4 Wis (temporary); Secondary Damage 2d4 Wis (temporary).  The woman-eaters of the Candalan coast are expert poisoners.  Mauhúloth is an advanced poison that when drank serves two purposes, a) the dulling of the victim's thoughts, and b) sapping of the victim's confidence.  The bitter poison is served to the slaves of the Bragnar Bar Ort mixed with their meals.  The poison is so effective, that non-Ortor groups sometime purchase it from the Ortor, or trade weapons and armor for it.  The poison's manufacture is secret, but its ingredients are guessed to include bor, a bluish lichen that grows on the lower slopes of the mountains the Ortor inhabit.

Vomitia [Mundane]:  DC 15; Initial Damage 1 Con (temporary) + Stunned (see DMGp85) for 1d4 rounds; Secondary Damage 1d4 Con (temporary).  A poison commonly found and used in the Dreamlands, Vomitia is derived from the bark of green Vulu.  Vului grow alongside rivers and streams throughout Jadth and surrounding lowland areas.  The foul smelling bark is harested in strips and then the gum is shaved from the strip interiors.  Once collected, the gum is seasoned to obscure the taste.

Inhaled

Witches Pox [Mundane]:  DC 13; Initial Damage 1 Con (temporary); Secondary Damage 2d4 Con (temporary).  A nasty poison, Witches Pox is also dangerous to possess.  The poisonous cloud is produced by throwing a lightweight bag to the ground which releases a greyish-brown cloud of spores into the air.  All within the cloud (that breathe air) will begin coughing.  Those who miss their save versus Fortitude grow weary and sick.  A Pox Pouch (as it is sometimes called) is a cheap cloth bag cinched at the top.  The bag is packed with a selection of dried toadstool heads (over one month old) that are ready to explode on the slightest impact.  If anyone grapples, charges, or slams a possessor of a Pox Pouch there is a chance that a cloud will explode.  A good bag may produce a spore cloud with a radius of 10 ft, but lesser bags are also available.

Injurious

Blackbane (Dagra Dlu) [Mundane]: DC 12; Initial Damage 0; Secondary Damage 1d6 Str (temporary).  Common throughout northern temperate Terèthor, blackbane is cooked with several everyday ingredients and witchberry sap.  The concoction is cooked in a small silver-lined pot until nearly burnt.  A poisoned character's muscles are seized with a terrible aching.  Blackbane is most commonly used by the Poisoner's Guild of Oth.

Black-eyed Drippy [Mundane]:  DC 11; Initial Damage 1 Dex (temporary); Secondary Damage 2d4 Dex (temporary).  Common near Oth, the poison is named for the little brown and black-spotted mushroom whose spores are its primary ingredient.  The mushroom may be harvested in the Inunda Dul, growing from the flesh of corpses that have risen from the swampy depths.  Three mushrooms are required to make 1 dose.  People infected with black-eyed drippy lose coordination.

Bloodbane [Mundane]:

Nagdúl [Mundane]:  DC 15; Initial Damage 1d3 Str (temporary); Secondary Damage 2d3 Str (temporary).  A regularly made poison of the Bragnar Bar Ort of Candal, this oily brown liquid adheres to iron weapons for days, unless used.  An incapacitating poison, it is used on swords and daggers in close-quarter fighting and iron arrowheads in outdoor combat.  The priests of Kandlan have been trying to uncover the secret of its manufacture for many years, and have narrowed-down one ingredient to the eastern slopes above Olood.

Whitekiss [Mundane]:  DC 18; Initial Damage 1d6 Str and 1d6 Con (temporary); Secondary Damage 2d6 Str and 2d6 Con (temporary).  The poison begins acting 1d4 rounds after injection causing the character to begin convulsing (-2 to all actions).  If the character misses the second saving throw, he beings convulsing terribly (-4 to all actions).  If a character misses both saving throws the ability scores lost are permanent. Whitekiss is made from small white flowers found at night in the Inunda Dul by the people of Karelt.   The poison is among the most deadly near Oth, and the 10 Talas price (for one dose) reflects that.  The poison cannot be kept on a blade for more than 1d6 minutes before it becomes inert.
