The Peerage of Kathil-Zadar

The Third Panathan Dynasty (House Kathil-Zadar)

Following the brief Balzidas Dynasty, Pathic divinations led the priests to an orphan peasant girl living on the streets of Panath as their next Queen.  The noble families were outraged by this, especially following the alledged influences on Arân II that led to the continuing drain on the city-state's coffers to build the Nine Halls.  Responding to these concerns, the Council of Lanàdus sent overseers to Panath to review proceedures and law.  In 309 HK, the Council found that the Temple of Path had abused its powers and responsibility to the city-state.  Three High Priests connected with the Balzidas' corruption were extradited to Lanàdus and sentenced by the Council of Lanàdus to life imprisonment at Kryr Trémèmdum (despite three pleads for clemency by Queen Hazîr in 317, 322, and 329 HK).  The Dragon Throne, pleased with the outcome, did not form its own review of the matter, and did not seek further penalties.

Another issue to arise from the choice of Queen Hazîr was that of parentage.  When the Pathic priests found her, she was eating fish-heads by the Sakur piers.  She did not know her parents, and could not remember having lived with any.  When it was announced that a commoner child had been chosen as the next Queen, the commonfolk were pleased.  When it was announced that she was an orphan, hundreds submitted themselves as the parents of Hazîr.  Of the hundreds only two families' claims held up to scrutiny.  The courts determined that the parents of the child were a tanning family named Zadar, while the priests determined a fishing family were more likely, the Kathil.  When no determination could be made, the Queen (only 11 years old) adopted both names and fined each family the entirety of their savings and livelihoods for her abandonment.
