The Peerage of Zyan

The Seventh Kandàlan Dynasty (House Zyan)

The Zyan Dynasty of Candal was short-lived.  Following the End War, the citadel at Kandal was in ruins and members of the ruling Landar family never found.  The seach for a replacement High Lord went no further than Panath which despite great destruction claimed an intact and ancient royal family.  The heir apparent, Lord Arakan (soon to be the Tenth of Panath) visited with priests of Kandlan for many years, supplying them with supplies, money and support to continue the efforts of rebellion within occupied Candal.  Dekàlan Law required the priests to elect a High Lord of Candal before making the necessary decisions that would be required of a full-scale rebellion.  Arakan the First journeyed to Lanàdus with Kandlan priests where his approval was sealed.  Until a time when he could be properly seated and crowned in Candal, he was given the title of Lord Removed which he carried until his death in 106 DR.  Upon his death, his second son became Lord Arakan the Second, completing his father's work in securing rebellion in 109 DR.  At that time Arakan the Second traveled to Candal and was presented the Living Crown (which may not leave the city).

The Family Lineage from Arakan Zyan

1.  Lord Removed Arakan Zyan the First of Candal.  He was named Lord in 83 DR by the High Priest of Kandlan.  He was never crowned but was made Lord Removed in a ceremony on Lanádus.  He married Lady Amàra Telor in 66 DR.  He died in 97 DR at a family estate near Panath, having never traveled to Candal.  His first son Tyránus was killed leading a rebel force into Candalan territory.  The lordship passed to his second child...

2.  High Lord Arakan Zyan the Second of Candal.  He was born 69 DR.  He was named High Lord in 97 DR by the High Priest of Kandlan at Lanádus, ruling from the island state for five years.  Following his father's support for the routing of Elve forces from Candal, he was crowned by the priests of Kandlan in 105 DR at Kry Shurulm, Candal.  He married Lady Iliara Do Morith of an ancient Candalan line in 106 DR at Candal.  Arakan the Second was most (in)famous for his religious purgings.  Following the Occupation, many had adopted Elve ideas of spiritual and "natural" forces guiding their lives.  Arakan the Second gathered these heretics and publicly executed many.  He died in 133 DR at Candal.  The Living Crown passed first to his son...

3.  High Lord Arakan Zyan the Third of Candal.  He was born 107 DR.  He was named High Lord in 133 DR by High Priestess Ularya the First in a grand ceremony of coronation in the tradition of ancient Kandal.  It was evident from this first public appearance that Arakan the Third was not a well man.  During the ceremony the weakened Lord slumped forward in his chair and the Living Crown fell to the floor.  All onlookers fell silent as the High Priestess picked the crown from the ground and placed it once again upon the monarch's head as two attendant priests held the man upright.  He died in 135 DR at Candal.  The Living Crown passed to his sister...

4.  High Lady Aralònoa Zyan the First of Candal.  She was born 108 DR at Candal.  She was named High Lady in 135 DR by High Priestess Ularya the First in a private ceremony.  Aralonoa the First was an effective and popular leader.  Under her guidance many of the outlying temples and shrines were rebuilt which in turn brought prosperity and peace to the Fertile Coast.  She married Lord Priest Hylun Mardorun in 140 DR, a common priest she met while traveling the countryside viewing ruined temples.  She died without children in 166 DR at Candal.  The Living Crown passed to her youngest sister...

5.  High Lady Uralya Zyan the First of Candal.  She was born in 116 DR at Candal.  She was named High Lady in 166 DR.  She married Lord Elkun Calmùren in 132 DR at Candal.  They had eight children.  The eldest children married and had children, but died before 172 DR.  She died in 172 DR at Candal.  The Living Crown passed to her third child, a son...

6.  High Lord Arakan Zyan the Fourth of Candal.  He was born in 136 DR at Candal.  At an early age young Arakan showed a talent for swords and combat.  In 148 DR his parents sent him to Ummon to learn the arts of war from the priests there.  Twenty-four years later a group of weary messengers arrived at the mountain city calling him home to take his mother's place.  He was named High Lord in 173 DR at Candal.  There was much speculation of turmoil in the Temple of Kandlan over his assumption of powers, as he was clearly a follower of Irul rather than the Temple.  Their worries were not unwarranted.  In 176 DR, Arakan the Fourth raised armies throughout his realm, launching withering assaults on Ortori homelands in the mountains that bordered Candal.  Over the next years, the Ortor-Murdru were pushed far back into the mountains.  Though the Ortor provided no more problems to Candal during Arakan the Fourth's reign, the Ortor that survived and were able to regroup formed the basis for the Bragnar Bar Ort.  He adopted an old custom of Kandalan lords of marrying many women (concurrently).  He married his first wife Lady Galhea Mor Aneth in 175 DR.  He died in 202 DR at Candal.  At the time of his death he had seven wives and over thirty children.  The Living Crown passed to his son...

7.  High Lord Kalar Zyan the Second of Candal.  He was born in 175 DR at Candal.  Unlike his father, Kalar was a disciplined warrior or scholar.  He was prone to ravings and destructive outbursts, most of which were occurred beyond th enotice of the public.  The priests of Kandlan however were worried about the kind of High Lord he would become.  A failed assassination attempt on Kalar in 174 DR was traced to a small group of priests close to the royal family.  The ailing Arakan the Fourth ordered the priests put to death without trial, an order that could have been contested by the Temple but was permitted to avoid spectacle.  He was named High Lord in 202 DR at Candal.  Kalar the Second was paranoid, accusing priests and family members of plotting against him.  Few took these accusations seriously until members of the family began showing up dead.  After the seventh sibling was found murdered in his chambers, the Temple called upon an Inquisitor from Lanàdus to investigate the killings.  When the High Lord learned of this, three ships were sent to "meet" the visitor's ship but returned to port weeks later.  The Inquisitor's ship never reached Candal.  After several more murders many of the High Lord's siblings fled to the edges of the realm, or to other realms.  Several fled to Panath whereupon Kalar revoked their right to succession.  At his death in 228 DR, of his 32 siblings, only three remained.  It took the Temple three years to find them for they had been driven so far away by Kalar's spies and assassins.  The Living Crown passed to his sister...

8.  High Lady Asebelya Zyan the First of Candal.  She was born to Arakan the Fourth's fourth wife in 195 DR at Candal.  Though only a half-sister to Kalar the First, her family's reputation was destroyed by her predecessor.  The Ortor that her father had pushed from the region were engaging in winter raids again and there was great distrust of the Crown.  She was named High Lady in 231 DR at Candal.  Though a favorite of the Temple, Asebelya was unable to win the favor or trust of the Candalan people.  The accidental and separate deaths of her remaining brothers in 233 DR and her own sense of helplessness and guilt for the atrocities committed by Arakan the Fourth precipitated her choice to forfeit the Crown to the Temple so that they might chose a new family to lead Candal (235 DR).  Following this, Asebelya became a popular priestess of the Temple, eventually rising to the position of High Priestess and crowning the second of Lor Danith line.

The Third Othic Dynasty (House Zyan)

The Zyan Dynasty of Oth emerged from the turbulent Elven occupation of that city.  The High Priestess Vulandra the Second received Dryryn Zyan (first cousin of Elvor the Third of Kandal) and his new wife Lady Alluan Aldar in the summer of 44 DR to discuss the future of the occupied city-state Oth (the Elve would withdraw two years later).  Vulandra was impressed with Dryryn and promised him the Iron Crown if he would commit himself to Kyrm Oryroth (he was a Kandlanite) and rout the invaders from the city-state.  This he promised, leaving in the next season for distant Lanàdus where he (and his descendants) were given High Lordship of Oth.  From Lanàdus, Dryryn journeyed far until his legendary meeting with Katulth (whose full name may not be written here) who he returned with to Oth in 54 DR.  Returning to find the city largely in Acentran hands, Dryryn the First organized a partisan army which attacked Ancentran forces inside and outside of the city.  Riots ensued, erupting throughout the land.  Anarchy reigned in the City of Oth for the winter season.  In the spring of 55 DR, Dryryn the First's army pushed into Kry Shurulm and the bloodletting was terrible.  Soon, the High Lord strode into halls thick with carnage and claimed the Iron Throne.

10.  High Lord Eldin Zyan the First of Oth.  He was born 173 DR at Oth.  He was crowned by the priests of Roth in 194 DR at Kyrm Oryroth.  He never married.  Eldin the First's terible health was blamed on his Zyrrn mother, who disappeared shortly after the dead of Eldin's father.  The sickly High Lord died in 238 DR at Kry Shurulm, Oth.  The Iron Crown passed from the Zyan to the Rott family in 243 DR.

The Fourth Panàthan Dynasty (House Zyan)

The Zyan Dynasty of Panath was the eldest royal line to grace the annals of Dekàlan history.  The patriarch of the family was coronated in 630 HK.  The Golden Crown was handed down for nearly 800 years before the last Zyan dynasty came to an end.
