"The space beyond is lit only by what light enters through the doorway.  The far side of the chamber is shadowy which explains, in part, why you don't see his shape at first.  A moment later his form comes into view; a massive Uren sitting on three (maybe more) chairs sits before you.  Legs like pillars splay over the chairs from beneath his monstrous body.  Giant hands mounted on the end of tree trunk arms and bearish shoulders hold a slim ceramic vase.  The creautre smiles pleasantly as you enter.  When he speaks you find his voice deep and resonant and engaging.

"`From Taládan,' he says appreciatively.  `Late empire porcelain, intricate brushwork, good condition, a fine vessel' he says glancing from the vase to yourself.  `What would you pay for such a piece? Five, six thousand?'  He smiles.  `If you could, you would be cheating me.'  He sets the piece down reverently in a blanket-lined crate, before collecting himself back onto his chairs.  `I don't get many callers asking for me by name.'  He nods his head, which more slides into the confines of his neck and chin, rather than making an independent motion.  `Worron said you had something of a, personal nature to discuss?' "

Oth. Fourteen. 29 Jun 1995

The Armorer

Post-Dekàlan Armor

Post-Dekàlan Uren society has not developed heavy battle armor (i.e. field plate, calvary plate, etc.) as found in some other cultures and races.  While most soldiers wear light armor and shields, wealthy thardram have been known to don chain and platemail.  The type of armor worn by a person directly reflects a carefully maintained social rank.  People found wearing prestigious armor who are not appropriately ranked in the society, are punished for their presumptuousness and the insult upon their betters.  Punishment usually includes humiliation and imprisonment.

Though the armor in the tables below are listed by period, not all of the armor listed therein was available during all times included in that period.

Note:  Armor ratings are based on the "Chivalry & Sorcery: The Rebirth" system (see C&S:CRp1:92-94) and the "Dungeons & Dragons: Players Handbook" (see PHBp104).  All prices are listed in Dekàlan Audàra (d).  Gold prices should be adjusted by region accordingly.

Though many kinds of armor can be found and purchased in Azálari, very few kinds are practical in the desert climate.  Most desert warriors cover themselves in large wraps and hoods to protect themselves from the blazing desert sun and blowing sands.

* This bonus only applies to attacks directed at the head and is not cumulative with other armor bonuses

In the tropics of Jadth it is necessary to account for heat and moisture when choosing an appropriate armor to wear.  The following armors have been adapted as best as possible to account for the climate.  Existing armor from other locations may be adjusted by skilled artisans to meet these criteria.  Armors that do not meet the necessary requirements halve their Maximum Dexterity Bonuses and double their Armor Check Penalties.

* This bonus only applies to attacks directed at the head and is not cumulative with other armor bonuses

The mountain-dwelling followers of the war god Irul have historically been expert armorers and weaponsmiths.  Their products are generally of a higher quality than similar equipment found elsewhere.  For this reason, and the remoteness of Ummon, Ummòni armors regularly carry a much higher price than similar pieces made in the rest of the Old Empire.  The quality of the Ummòni craftsmen has been compared to the masterwork of the Dwürden.  Ummòni craftsmen take great pride in their work, and will refuse to sell anything of less than exquisite quality.

Dekàlan Armor

In the days of the Old Empire (referred to as the Early, Middle and Late Classical Period), soldiers were equipped much differently than in the present day (circa 653 DR).  To a large extent, armor was much lighter during this time as mobility was seen as being much more valuable to a footman than being able to absorb damage from an enemy's attacks.  The difference in armor was also related to the difference in fighting styles.  It is said that there are soldiers (and priests) that still study the old fighting styles of their Dekàlan ancestors.
