The Loyoliyeth
The al-Tolazul (diving ships) of the Zultayan
are built to serve multiple purposes. The primary
use of Zultayan diving ships are to provide a means to
transport
cargo and people long distances under the ocean. The
second purpose of these ships is that of hunting vessel,
where
the hunters can be protected against sea monsters behind
the ship's most distinguishing feature, its great bow-shell. The
third use for diving ships is that of a war or pirate vessel,
for which they are supremely fitted. Their ability
to surface and submerge in addition to their armoring make
them
superior to air-breather ships in combat.
The bow-shell is wrought from one of two ocean
behemoths. The first is the shell of the Yulatuo Oloyethi
(D'agul Turtles) of the Great Southern Sea. Ships made
with these shells are exorbitantly expensive and dangerous
to find. The turtle shell ships are usually reserved
for important people or flagships of a war party. The
more common shells are carved from the heads of dead Ayatalokayulo
(Giant Coelacanth). The Ayatalokayulo are reverred by
the Zultaya, to whom they are referred as "Old Men of
the Sea". |

The Crew
A typical Tolazul carries a crew of twenty-four
(multiple of eight) Zultayan. The manning of a Tolazul
requires a different skill set than that of air-breeathing
vessels. The most important duty on a diving ship is
that of handler. It is the duty of the handlers (mahout)
to insure that the carriers are well-fed, calm and obedient.
If the handlers are not proficient in their responsibilities,
the carriers are likely to tear the ships into splinters.
