"Too often days swiftly pass / Weeping in the evening grass / There just is not enough time / Forthings you dreamt you'd do / The hours still drift by.

"Too many years, too high a cost / Too many lessons earned but lost / And still you complain all the time / Cursing the days before you / Lamentng the days gone by.

"And finally laying in your bed / Staring skyward, nearly dead / It all floods back one last time, / The chances that you left behind / But alas there's little left to do / ... but cry."

The Death of Jak the Elder
7 Tolth 652 - 10 Tolth 652

A large explosion rocks the Northwall Inn.  Mishara shadows mysterious figures leaving the area, but turns back.  An interrogation led by Foulstern exonerates the group.  Cogham is met in Mothsmire.  Returning to Candan, the company recieves word that Jak the Elder is missing.  His lifeless body is found near Darshshell where he was beset by thieves.  The stage is set.

Jak awoke at the inn and went to look at a nearby general store. Finding nothing in the store, he prepared to leave but was knocked aside by a large explosion. Jak helps locals extinguish proximity fires while Alcerra arrives to tend to the injured. Mishara follows some mysterious figures away from the scene but after a brief verbal confrontation with their grog, he returns to the inn. On his way back along the road he encounters Jak hiding behind an embankment with a large parcel, heading home to the marsh. Mishara convinces Jak that fleeing the scene will make him seem guilty and together they both return.

An interrogation takes place in the inn, with Jak telling detailed stories of the group's adventures. In the morning, a second interview takes place with a robed man named Foulstern, who seems interested in a recurring name in the group's stories, Androth.

After a small recess he orders the guards to allow the group to leave. The group goes to Candan and meets Jak the Elder, Jak's father, where they learn of Cogham's death. They return to Joachim's farm for the night, returning to the marshes again the next day.

Visiting Mothsmire, where the marsh is grey with clay, they go to Cogham's residence, and then to the mother of Daggan the Thug. They are asked to leave and do so. On their way back to the gate of Wesridge, they learn that someone was asking about Jak last night, and turn back to Candan to see how Jak the Elder fares. He is missing. The group spends all night looking for Jak's father, to no avail. In the morning Alcerra is able to find a corpse of an unidentified man, recently skewered, face down in the mud , not far from Jak the Elder's home. The group follow a path toward Darshshell and come across a grim site of ambush and the stabbed-to-death body of Jak the Elder. Jak carried his father back to the Candan Graves where Alcerra performs the Rites of Draun. Alcerra is later shown that the Fiery Wench Tavern floor, the only dry place in town, is constructed from old gravestones bearing the mark of her cult.
