Anke (Anke, of Ildûn) was raised
in southern Ildûn by her father Ardèyn (ahr
DEY ehn). Her father told her from an early
age that her mother had sickened and died when she was a
baby, and that they'd moved from the Aylyran northlands shortly
thereafter. Anke has always known she was different
from her peers, but the worst of her problems, her monthly
fits, were always kept secret from her neighbors. When
Anke became an adolescent, her father Ardèyn confided
in her that the "fits" were not her fault, but
were instead the cost of her mother's sins. Anke did
not understand this explanation, but became increasingly
aware that her father seemed haunted by something from the
past. When she pushed him on it, he would say nothing.
As Anke grew into a young woman, she became
a proficient singer and learned to play a few instruments
passingly.
In the winter of 651 DR, her father caught
fever and died, leaving her the small house, a piece of land,
and an old horse. Deciding to leave Ildûn behind,
she sold the house and took the old horse to the port of
Savar'Dirm where in exchange for the mare and promise of
performance on the long journey south, took a boat to Tahl
and from there to the bustling city of Azàlari. Anke
spent several months in Azàlari, and time in L'sival
and Tirya before arriving in Jadth in the spring of 653 DR. In
each of the places she's lived she's enjoyed learning new
styles of music and how to play new and interesting instruments. Her
love for wandering has surprised her but she's not sure how
much further she can go now that her funds have dwindled.
